Commercial jobs give me an opportunity to try new things with light and can present a challenge that offers a learning opportunity along the way. This photograph of a machine used to make fabric for mattresses uses a great deal of technology and making a photograph that reflects a high tech atmosphere isn't always easy inside of a factory. To accomplish such a task, a great deal of time is taken to set up strobes that throw the light in such a way that places a larger emphasis on the machinery and less on its surroundings.

This picture is amazing. The interplay of light and shadows in just the right places is perfect.

Killer use of light and shadow to accent the machine. It seems you have a good eye for these things judging by your pictures. Touche

I really enjoy this one. It tells some kind of story that you don't need to hear, to know. Good job!

Yeah, I really like this. You managed to balance for the light perfectly and the combination of highlights and darkness makes for a fascinating composition.

While I did only visit your blog because of the link on flickr, I wasn't going to comment unless I saw something I liked...
This is pretty cool. I almost didn't notice the scale of the machine until I saw the person standing in the middle of it.

Good light - interesting shot.

As I hate to just second what everybody else said I'll concentrate on what I think could be better:

I think the top third of the photo is kind of detached from the bottom two thirds, by the darker area separating them (between the closest and second closest lamp). It's like you are trying to do two things at once - it's close to being two unrelated photos in my mind.

The top third would have made a good photo (love the lamps!). The bottom two thirds (without lamps, please), would have made a wonderful photo.

Together... less so...

My eyes can't decide where to go, I love it. Lighting is balanced just right!

Love this style of lighting where the light fall off is really visible. Don't know if it'd improve it if you could see a little more into the areas in shadow? Might make it seem a little too busy maybe...

Nice sense of isolation in it though - very atmospheric.

I think I've seen this blog before. I've seen the baby photos before. All the photos are amazing, but this one drew my attention the most.

This is my favorite of the blog... actually the only one that suits my personal photographic tastes (though, the one for your son and the accompanying story is great). I would personally like to see this with the machines in the BG becoming darker/less saturated with distance. Maybe a filter... (or "ghasp" in post. Either way... nice shot.

I never thought industrial looms could look so beautiful.

Now I am inspired to try and bring out the hidden beauty in my world.

Thanks.

This shot is my favorite. It really shows off your ability to shape light in an unusual space. It would be great to get some more details on your lighting setup.

I love the artsy look of an industrial subject. The photo draws me in to explore the subject and holds my attention. Well done.
